Mémoire de l'Avenir is a non-profit, non-partisan organization under French law (1901), whose core mission is to use the arts and cultural heritage to address urgent issues related to identity, memory, pluralism, history, human rights, and the environment.
Despite current challenges, we remain committed to our mission: using art and cultural heritage as tools for dialogue and social transformation, in support of inclusion, sustainability, and the fight against discrimination and ignorance.
Since 2003, through the development of various interconnected areas — exhibitions, educational programs, research, and Humanities, Arts and Society — Mémoire de l'Avenir has placed creativity and dialogue at the heart of its actions, tools, and methods, promoting reflection and learning, encouraging active and creative participation by all, as well as the intersection of diverse disciplines.
Mémoire de l’Avenir is located in Belleville, Paris.
Its space is designed as a meeting place for artists, thinkers, and audiences from all cultural and disciplinary backgrounds, sharing a strong interest in the role and impact of art in contemporary society.
Artistic Programming
Mémoire de l'Avenir organizes contemporary art events in its own space as well as satellite programs (debates, performances, etc.). The artistic and curatorial approaches adopted aim to foster a sensitive and intuitive engagement with the artworks.
Each exhibition provides tools for reflection not only on art itself, but also on the broader issues raised by the works. By questioning the world, artists bring forth ideas, give shape to emotions, and open pathways for dialogue. The works do not offer definitive answers or solutions but instead seek to explore problems that are both collective and deeply personal.
Art and Dialogue Training Workshops
In collaboration with artists, Mémoire de l'Avenir also creates and develops multidisciplinary workshops and interactive cultural mediation based on an original methodology developed by Margalit Berriet. This approach is grounded in the respectful inclusion of all cultures and identities, and promotes intuitive creativity, focusing on the notion of sensitivity as a foundation for cognitive learning.
Research and Pedagogy
Through our cultural mediation program, specifically designed for audiences with limited access to culture, artworks and museums are used as tools and spaces for dialogue, debate, and critical inquiry into contemporary issues. This mediation work not only empowers participants to navigate museum spaces independently but also encourages the emergence of diverse forms of knowledge and skills unique to each individual. These insights are then shared and valued within the collective.
